Local Woman Forced To Buy Home In Flood Zone

Staff Reports

A local woman is upset with village council because a mortgage company forced her to purchase a home in a flood zone.

Virginia Adams spoke before the village council and pleaded with council members to protect her from the mortgage company. "They literally met with me and said, 'you buy this home in this flood zone, or else." Adams claims that she is now unable to sell the home because it's public knowledge that the home is in a flood zone. "Can you order the mortgage company to force someone else to buy my home?" Adams asked.

Adams claims that this isn't the first time a company has forced her to make purchases. In July 2005 a travel agent forced Adams to pay $3500 on an all expenses paid trip to Orlando Florida to experience the sights and sounds of Walt Disney World. "It completely wiped out my savings," Adams said. "It's not right what they can do to you."
