The Sandusky Board of Education is putting their money where their mouth is.
The district's treasurer, Troy Bouts, has agreed to work for one year without collecting his salary of $98,198. Superintendent Bill Pahl also indicated that he will donate his salary of $118,170 back to the school system. Together with Assistant Superintendent John Kaszonyi and wife Vicky, the group of administrators hopes to bridge the gap between the district's necessary revenue and their budget shortfall. Records indicate that Superintendent Bill Pahl and Treasurer Troy Bouts are receiving a full pension from Ohio taxpayers. Mr. Pahl is hoping their civic attitudes will rub off on other district employees. "We're hoping, but not expecting. We'll see what happens."
Several teachers, who wished to remain anonymous, voiced support for the idea. "They're taxpayers too, and some of them are double dipping anyway," one teacher said. "Most families in our area don't make what they're making, even with both parents working."
